The teaching of english studies in philology and interpretation translation.: Methodological differences

Abstract

La necesidad de establecer unos rasgos definitorios en la asignatura de lengua inglesa en los estudios de Filología Inglesa y de Traducción e Interpretación se impone cada vez con mayor fuerza como una necesidad para perfilar las diferencias en el objetivo final que tiene cada titulación. Así, a pesar de la obligación que tienen los estudiantes de cada una de las titulaciones de conocer la lengua extranjera de una forma exhaustiva, es cierto que el uso en elm ercado laboral que se a a dar a esos conocimientos sigue caminos bien dispares. El objetivo de este artículo es ofrecer una muestra didáctica sobre la forma en que se ha explotado unb mismo texto en lengua inglesa con estudiantes de Filología Inglesa y con estudiantes de Traducción e Interpretación, con el fin de dibujar esas diferencias a la hora de enseñar esta lengua extranjera.

The need to define the subject of English in the university studies of Philology and Translation and Interpreting is increasingly important as the different final objectives of each degree are more specifically determined. Thus, despite the obligation of the students from each degree to reach an in-depth level of knowledge of the foreign language, it is commonly accepted that the application of this knowledge in their future careers will be completely different. The aim of this paper is to offer a methodological sample about how the same text has been worked on in class in these two degrees, in order to underline these inner differences when teaching English according to the proposed aim.
