Abstract: Over the last few years, fish health and welfare in aquaculture production have received increasing attention. A well-balanced dietary fatty acid profile is a determinant of animal health and welfare, and thus there is the potential that the replacement of fish oil (FO) by vegetable oils (VO) in feeds for cultured fish will affect this balance. The present chapter reviews the effects of the inclusion of dietary VO on various aspects of fish health and welfare, including some new unpublished data.
