El transporte aéreo en Europa: balance de las tendencias en el sector tras la liberalización

Abstract

La industria de transporte aéreo ha sido objeto en las últimas décadas de reformas liberalizadoras radicales. Sin embargo, la competencia, aunque ha aumentado, no se ha desarrollado en el grado esperado. La industria se ha venido ordenando siguiendo un modelo de concentración geográfica, basado en el dominio de los servicios ofrecidos desde los aeropuertos más importantes. Este desenlace ha acarreado una revisión, y debate, sobre los modelos teóricos que explican el funcionamiento de la industria y el posible grado de intervención regulatoria.

In recent times the air transport industryhas been the subject of radical liberalising reforms.Nevertheless, although competition has increased, it has not developed to the extent expected. The industryhas been re-organised according to a model of geographic concentration, based on the predominance of the services offered from the majo airports. This outcome has led to the review and discussion of the theoretical models that explain the working of the industry and the possible degree of regulatory intervention.
