Abstract: El propósito de este estudio consistió en evaluar el Síndrome de burnout y su relación con los hábitos de alimentación en una muestra de 109 profesores españoles de enseñanza secundaria. Los datos se recogieron al finalizar el curso escolar. El burnout se evaluó con el Cuestionario de Burnout de Maslach (MBI) y los hábitos de alimentación con un cuestionario diseñado para este estudio. Los resultados obtenidos evidenciaron: (1) la elevada presencia del síndrome (agotamiento emocional, despersonalización y eficacia profesional); (2) la existencia de relación positiva entre los hábitos de alimentación disfuncionales y el burnout; (3) el impacto del burnout en los hábitos de alimentación; (4) la influencia de los niveles de burnout como predictores de los hábitos de alimentación saludables y disfuncionales; (5) el impacto de ciertas variables sociodemográficas y contextuales en el síndrome. Se ofrecen propuestas para el fomento de la salud y de la calidad de vida laboral de los profesores y centros escolares, así como para posteriores estudios.
The purpose of this study was to examine the presence of burnout syndrome and its relationship with eating habits in a sample of 109 secondary school teachers from Spain. Data were collected at the end of one school year. The Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) was used to measure burnout syndrome. Eating habits were assessed with a survey developed for this study. Results obtained showed: (1) high rates of the syndrome (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment); (2) positive correlations between unhealthy eating habits and burnout, (3) impact of burnout on eating habits; (4) predictor value of burnout levels on healthy or unhealthy eating habits, (5) the impact of some sociodemographic and environmental variables on burnout. Empirical and practical suggestions for the promotion of health and quality of teachers working life of and educational centers are offered as well as ideas for further research.
