Abstract: The present paper reports the excess enthalpies and excess volumes for six examples of {a methyl ester (from ethanoate to n-hexanoate) + n-octane} at the temperature 298.15 K and atmospheric pressure. The excess enthalpies and the excess volumes of all the mixtures were positive over the entire composition range. The magnitudes of both decreased in a quasi-regular manner as the ester chain-length increased. The HEms were analyzed using two versions of the UNIFAC model and the Nitta and Chao model. The overall mean error was 0.13 · HEm. The predicted VEm values obtained using the Nitta and Chao model had a mean error of 0.10 · VEm. © 1992 Academic Press Limited All rights reserved.
