Abstract

El artículo se centra en analizar desde una perspectiva espacial las relaciones comerciales del Archipiélago canario con África analizando las principales partidas de los intercambios en peso y valor así como las vicisitudes habidas por motivos derivados de la coyuntura económica y de los avatares históricos y politicos.

Research on the Geography of Trade is becoming important nowadays due to the decisive weight that the tertiary sector has gained in the post-industrial societies and the increasing internationalization ofregional economies. This paper studies the performance of the foreign trade of the Canary Islands towards the African continent between the year 2000 and the year 2010 from a geographical perspec-tive. It takes into account the peculia-rities of the islands’ economy and the restrictions set by the regulatory frame-work in Spain, as well as the limitations applied by the different countries of destination and origin of the goods. It analyzes the main subsectors involved in this trade, the export and import of consumer goods and the main African countries acting as consignees and providers of goods
