Los gráficos en geografía cuando el lugar importa: una experiencia didáctica en estudiantes universitarios

Abstract

El lugar y espacio son dos términos que tienen una amplia cobertura semántica y por eso forman parte del lenguaje cotidiano. Sin embargo, existen muchas dificultades cuando se trata de caracterizar lugares en particular. Por ello, en este trabajo se presenta una experiencia didáctica sobre la comprensión de gráficas, y textos de un lugar determinado, en estudiantes del Máster del Profesorado de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria. La experiencia se basa en un ejercicio de asociar textos de pequeña extensión, donde se describen situaciones de la vida cotidiana de familias africana en cada mes del año, entregándosele además gráficos de flujos del río y climograma. Los estudiantes deben analizar los gráficos y la información de los textos, y finalmente organizarlos asociándolo a un solo mes del año. Se realiza un trabajo colaborativo. Los resultados fueron expuestos por cada grupo y muestran que la comprensión gráfica de los estudiantes se ubicó fundamentalmente en los niveles de lectura básica. Sus interpretaciones estuvieron enfocadas principalmente en aspectos locales y tuvieron dificultades para relacionar información relevante y el contexto.

Place and space are two terms with comprehensive semantic coverage and, therefore, are part of the everyday language. However, there are many difficulties when characterizing particular places. For this reason, this paper presents a didactic experience in comprehending graphs and texts from a specific place in students of the Master’s Degree in Teaching in the Social Sciences specialty of the University of las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The experience is based on an exercise of associating texts of small length, where situations of the daily life of families in an African city are described in each month of the year, also given graphs of river flows and thermal - rainfall. Students must analyze the graphics and information of the twelve texts and finally organize them, associating them with a single month of the year. Collaborative work is done. The results were presented by each group and showed that the visual comprehension of the students was located fundamentally in the basic reading levels. Their interpretations were mainly focused on local aspects of the graphs, and they had difficulty connecting relevant information and the context.
