La Electra caribeña de Virgilio Piñera

Abstract

Virgilio Piñera (1912-1979), uno de los dramaturgos más significativos del teatro cubano e hispanoamericano de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, realiza en su obra Electra Garrigó (1941) una personal versión del mito clásico. La nueva Electra está llena de nuevos códigos y referencias caribeñas, si bien mantiene la idea primigenia de la tragedia, los personajes siguen siendo los inmortales y predecibles del mito, abocados a su fatídico final. La obra de Piñera conjuga magistralmente lo universal y lo vernáculo, crea una pieza sincrética, como es propio de la cultura caribeña. Un estudio en homenaje al profesor José Romera Castillo
