Resumen: This study explores the significance of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in secondary education and high school, particularly focusing on students at risk of social exclusion in the Canary Islands. The research, conducted during the 2023-2024 academic year, involved a survey of 236 students to assess their perceptions of ESP's importance for their professional futures. The findings reveal a strong interest in acquiring ESP skills, particularly among students facing socio-economic challenges. The results support the hypothesis that integrating ESP into the curriculum can enhance students' motivation and academic performance, especially for those at higher risk of exclusion. The study underscores the necessity of tailoring educational content to the specific needs and realities of students to ensure effective and meaningful learning. It recommends that secondary and high school educators incorporate ESP content into their programs and adopt a pragmatic approach focused on students' specific needs, preparing them for the labor market. Implementing these practices not only benefits students individually but also contributes to the economic and social development of the region. The study concludes that including ESP in the curriculum is a valuable resource for ensuring that all students, regardless of their personal, economic, or social circumstances, acquire the skills needed to succeed in the current job market.
