Gran Canaria-La Plata. Relaciones y pláticas en torno al museo

Abstract

La Ilustración y la revolución que supuso en el pensamiento fue el caldo de cultivo sobre el que nacieron los museos, tal y como los concebimos actualmente. Para el caso que nos ocupa, centrado en el siglo xix, sobresalen los casos de El Museo Canario y el Museo de La Plata, dos instituciones que, nacidas en esa centuria, mantuvieron relaciones no solo por los emigrados insulares radicados en aquella tierra argentina, sino también por los contactos establecidos entre ambos centros a través de sus directores para el intercambio de información y material científico. Una historia que nos habla de contactos entre los museos del mundo, del emerger del concepto ‘nación’, de relaciones en el ámbito educativo-social y cultural-científico, y de la construcción de identidades culturales a través de las colecciones y de los museos locales.

The Enlightenment and the revolution in thought, was the breeding ground on which museums were born, as we know them today. In this particular instance, focused on the nineteenth century, the cases of El Museo Canario and the Museo de La Plata stand out, two institutions that, born in that century, maintained contact not only because of the Canary emigrants who settled in Argentina, but also by the established contacts between both centers through their directors for the exchange of information and scientific material. A story that tells us about relations between the museums along the world, the emergence of the concept of ‘nation’, relationships in the educational-social and cultural-scientific field, and the construction of cultural identities through collection and local museum.
