In persistently infected cattle and in cattle with MD, a widespread infection of neurons was present. Predilection sites for BVDV antigens were the cerebral cortex and the hippocampus. In calves with congenital encephalopathies, viral antigen‐containing neurons could only be detected in the CNS of four animals. From the topographical distribution of BVDV antigens in these four postnatal cases with end‐stage lesions, no conclusions could be drawn concerning the pathogenesis of BVDV‐induced encephalopathies. © 1992 Blackwell Verlag GmbH | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/124536 | ISSN: | 0931-1793 | DOI: | 10.1111/j.1439-0450.1992.tb01211.x | Fuente: | Journal of Veterinary Medicine Series B: Infectious Diseases and Veterinary Public Health [0931-1793], v.39(8), p.599-609 |
