A software-defined radio is characterized by its flexibility: Simply modifying or replacing software programs can completely change its functionality. This allows easy upgrade to new modes and improved performance without the need to replace hardware. The SDR-1000 transceiver used in this article developed by Gerald Youngblood is a semiassembled three-board set. It has a new quadrature sampling detector (QSD). A modulation, transceiver control and sound card library has been developed using C and C++. The tests were developed with AM, FM, USB, LSB and CW modulations.
