Canarias y el éxodo venezolano

Abstract

El presente trabajo analiza la evolución de la inmigración procedente de Venezuela en las dos últimas décadas, indagando en su número y composición, sus causas y consecuencias. La oportunidad de esta aproximación reside en la reciente e inconclusa crisis migratoria que ha afectado a la República Bolivariana de Venezuela. En el abordamiento de este tema se distinguen dos planos: en primer lugar, la evolución de esta corriente migratoria y su relación con la reciente crisis política y económica de aquel país y con su consecuente estallido social. Y, en segundo lugar, la distribución territorial de esta comunidad en España, con una atención especial a los venezolanos que han llegado a Canarias en igual intervalo de tiempo, las causas que en origen y destino motivan esos desplazamientos, su cuantía, el perfil sociodemográfico de sus miembros, su integración en la sociedad canaria y su desigual distribución territorial.

This paper analyzes the evolution of immigration from Venezuela in the last two decades, inquiring its number and composition, its causes, and consequences. The opportunity for this approach lies in the recent and unfinished migration crisis affecting the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. In addressing this issue, two levels are distinguished: first, the evolution of this migratory stream and its relationship with the recent Venezuelan political and economic crisis, and with its consequent social outbreak. And, secondly, the spatial distribution of this community in Spain, with special attention to Venezuelans who have arrived in the Canary Islands in the same time interval, the causes that motivate these displacements in origin and destination, their amount, the socio-demographic profile of their members, their integration into Canarian society and their uneven territorial distribution.
