Nuevo perfil profesional para el traductor: la figura del Community Manager

Abstract

Introducción. El propósito de este trabajo teórico es profundizar en el perfil formativo y profesional del community manager (CM) y determinar si la formación que recibe un traductor e intérprete (TEI) de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) se acerca a las competencias requeridas para el desempeño de la profesión de CM. Materiales y métodos. Investigación cualitativa a través de la recopilación, análisis y selección de datos relevantes al ámbito de estudio. Se incluyen encuestas y entrevistas a expertos del sector. Resultados. Se confirma la hipótesis de que la mayoría de las competencias adquiridas en los grados de Traducción e Interpretación (TI) de la ULPGC casan con las principales aptitudes que debe reunir un CM, aunque deben subsanarse una serie de carencias formativas técnicas y específicas del sector. Conclusión. Este estudio abre una nueva puerta hacia posibles salidas profesionales para TEI de la ULPGC. La falta de experiencia en el sector puede ser un obstáculo, pero no tiene porqué ser determinante.

Introduction. The purpose of this theoretical work is to delve into the training and professional profile of the community manager (CM) and to corroborate whether the training received by a translator and interpreter (T&I) from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) is closed to the competencies required to carry out the profession of CM. Materials and methods. Qualitative research through the collection, analysis and selection of data relevant to this field of study. Survey and interviews with experts in the sector are included. Results. The hypothesis confirms that most of the competences acquired in the ULPGC degree in Translation and Interpreting (TI) match the main skills that a CM must have, although a series of technical and sector-specific training gaps must be filled. Conclusion. This study opens a new door to possible career opportunities for TI students of the ULPGC. The lack of experience in the sector may be an obstacle but it does not have to be a determining factor.
