Aspectos biológicos del guelde blanco Atherina (Hepsetia) presbyter, Cuvier, 1829 en aguas de Gran Canaria

Abstract

Sobre una selección de 1869 ejemplares de guelde blanco Atherina presbyter capturados en aguas someras en tomo a la isla de Gran Canaria, entre los meses de abril y septiembre de 1990, se llevó a cabo un estudio morfométrico y un análisis entre las etapas de crecimiento y su régimen alimentario. Dado que tanto los juveniles como los ejemplares adultos se localizan en el mismo área geográfica. Se atribuye la variación en el ritmo de crecimiento, que se produce entre los 4 y 5 cm de longitud total, a cambios en el régimen alimentario.

Over a selection of 1869 specimens of silversides Atherina presbyter, caugth in shallow waters around Gran Canaria from April to September 1990, was carried out a morphometric study and a stomach contents analysis. It was detected a relationship between the growth phases and the feeding habits. Considering that juveniles and adults inhabit the same geographical area, the variation in the growth pattem that it takes place between 4-5 cm of total body length, coinciding with a change in the feeding habits, seems to be an effect of a major trophic independence from the bottom.
