Abstract: Objective: To determine the perception that the students from different Spanish universities, who are finishing their Physiotherapy studies, have concerning their preparedness to use electrophysical agents (EPAs) in the clinical practice. Material and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was designed using a questionnaire to know the preparedness of Physiotherapy students. The questionnaire was mailed to the Heads of Physiotherapy Schools of 9 Spanish universities to give to last year students who wanted to participate in the study (n = 590). Results: In total, 442 questionnaires were filled out and returned. A total of 75% of the sample felt "prepared" or "very prepared" for the following EPAs: cold packs/ice, hot packs, ultrasounds, infrared electrical stimulation for sensory stimulation and microwave. However, over 60% of the students considered themselves underprepared for: Russian electrical stimulation (Russian currents), magnetic fields, ultraviolet light, biofeedback and microcurrents. Conclusions: These findings generate reflexions about the adequacy of Spanish physiotherapy education programs and the level of competence expected of new graduates for the safe and effective application of a range of EPAs. The findings indicate the need for clearer guidelines on the levels of competency expected of new graduate physiotherapists in Spain to develop its professional work properly.
