Abstract: Phosphorus-calcium homeostasis is regulated by parathyroid hormone(PTH). A primary (parathyroid gland adenoma or hyperplasia) or secondary (chronic renal failure or vitamin D deficiency) excess of this hormone or a PTH defect (hypoparathyroidism) has deleterious effects on the heart and vascular system. In this chapter the different disorders and their effects on the cardiovascular system are reviewed.
