Abstract: Copper sample were exposed (for 1 year) in different areas of Fuerteventura Island from Canare Archipelago, to study atmospheric corrosion in this tropical climate. The chlorine and SO2 concentrations were determined; also the moisture content was measured all exposure time. The corrosion products were analysed by X ray diffraction. The copper corrosion rates in this climate are very high and exceed the values of the current standards for atmospheric aggressivity; so it is necessary to be added a new atmospheric corrosion grade.
