La mar, que es el vivir

Abstract

El tópico literario de la comparación de la vida con un río ha sido desde Jorge Manrique recurrente lugar común de cierta crítica que ha encontrado en él la única posibilidad interpretativa de la interacción de agua y vida. Este criterio, nacido del azar de un texto como el de las “Coplas a la muerte del Maestre don Rodrigo”, ha imposibilitado en ocasiones la valoración de otros acercamientos y lecturas significativas como la que realizan, entre otros, los autores canarios. En este artículo se analiza la prehistoria del tópico manriqueño y su asentamiento posterior en las literaturas hispánicas, con especial atención a la canaria.

The literary theme of the comparison between the life and the river has become since Jorge Manrique a common-place for certain critic that has found in it a unique possibily to interpretate the interaction between water and life. This criterion , fixed by casualiy in the text “Coplas a la muerte del Maestre don Rodrigo”, has made impossible the valoration of other approaches and relevant readings, such as the one of the canary authors. This paper analyses the theme´s prehistory and its fixation in the hispanic literatures, attending, specially, to the canary interpretation.
