Abstract

This study focuses on Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz' text challenging the patriarchal spatial structures that distribute subjects in and outside the theatrical scene. By studying the seductive performance of the character of Castano dressed as a woman, this study demonstrates how Los empenos de una casa defies traditional patterns of gender and sexual desire as it simultaneously locates the weakness of the patriarchal order in gendered spaces.
