Abstract: This anide deals with Reivindicación del conde don Julián as an expresion of failure. The narrator needs to solve the labyrinth of his own life, represented as the site of the struggle between two conceptions of Spanish history: those of Américo Castro and Sánchez Albornoz. Don Julián, the traitor, sodomizes the child-narrator educated in postwar Spanish culture annihilating the myths of Sacred Spain. However, the destruction of these values does not lead to a synthesis or renovation. The rage behind this treason does not free the narrator but condemns him to the daily rewriting of his past full of irreconcilable contradictions.
