Un nuevo diálogo migratorio: Canarias, Latinoamérica y el Caribe en la era de la globalización

Abstract

La huella persistente de la histórica emigración de Canarias hacia Latinoamérica y el Caribe1 no debe ocultar la complejidad que han adquirido los procesos migratorios que se desarrollan entre ambas orillas del Atlántico, desde fines del siglo XX. En este artículo se interpretan estos vínculos migratorios en el contexto de las nuevas pautas de movilidad que caracterizan tanto a los países que integran la unidad geopolítica y cultural de Latinoamérica y el Caribe como a España. Y más allá de todo ello se intenta rastrear en las manifestaciones de ese nuevo diálogo migratorio, las que tejen las redes de la trasnacionalización, una de las más importantes señas de identidad de la globalización.

The persistent trace of the historical emigration from the Canary Islands towards Latin America and the Caribbean2 must not conceal the complexity acquired by the migratory processes developed between both shores of the Atlantic Ocean, from the ends of the 20th century on. In this article these migratory links are interpreted in the context of the new guidelines of mobility that characterize so much both the countries that integrate the geopolitical and cultural unit of Latin America and the Caribbean, and Spain. And beyond all this it is tried to trace in the manifestations of this new migratory dialog, which weave the networks of the transnationalization, one of the most important signs of identity of the globalization.
