Abstract: Vapor-liqiuid equilibrium data for the binaries of butyl alkanoates (from methanoate to butanoate) + butan-2-ol were determined at 101.32 kPa in a small-capacity ebulliometer. The four systems studied were found to be thermodynamically consistent by the point-to-point test and they presented a positive deviation from ideality. The activity coefficients and the magnitudes obtained directly from experimentation were correlated using a suitable equation. An azeotrope was found for the mixture x(1)butyl methanoate + x(2)butan-2-ol at x(1) = 0.248, T = 371.0 K. The application of the ASOG and UNIFAC models to predict the isobaric VLE data and the comparison between the different cases considered are also discussed.
