Abstract: Excess molar enthalpies and excess molar volumes at the temperature 298.15 K were determined for a set of 42 binary mixtures of six ethyl alkanoates (from octanoate to hexadecanoate) and seven odd n-alkanes (from pentane to heptadecane). Both properties were represented by a suitable equation. All mixtures presented positive excess enthalpy values, mainly due to the energetic effects of the van der Waals forces and dipole-dipole attractions, with low, or even negative excess volume values, except for the case of the mixtures that contained high molar mass hydrocarbons. Calculated curves obtained from group-contribution models did not represent well the experimental data. © 1999 Academic Press.
