Title: | Phytoplankton respiration in the Peru upwelling | Authors: | Setchell, Frank W. Packard, Theodore T. |
UNESCO Clasification: | 251001 Oceanografía biológica | Issue Date: | 1979 | Publisher: | 0142-7873 | Journal: | Journal of Plankton Research | Abstract: | Respiratory electron transport system (ETS) measurements were made on the microplankton in the Peru upwelling system near 15°S during March, April, and May of 1977. The close association between chlorophyll-α biomass and ETS activity indicate that the microplankton were predominantly phytoplankton. Phytoplankton respiration average 14% of gross fixed carbon. When zooplankton respiration in the euphotic zone is considered, the total plankton respiration represented an average of 19% of gross primary production. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/50888 | ISSN: | 0142-7873 | DOI: | 10.1093/plankt/1.4.343 | Source: | Journal of Plankton Research [ISSN 0142-7873], v. 1, p. 343-354 |
