The close association between chlorophyll-α biomass and ETS activity indicate that the microplankton were predominantly phytoplankton. Phytoplankton respiration average 14% of gross fixed carbon. When zooplankton respiration in the euphotic zone is considered, the total plankton respiration represented an average of 19% of gross primary production.||URI:||http://hdl.handle.net/10553/50888||ISSN:||0142-7873||DOI:||10.1093/plankt/1.4.343||Source:||Journal of Plankton Research [ISSN 0142-7873], v. 1, p. 343-354|
