Nina Bouraoui or the difficulty in building an identity

Abstract

The article analyzes Nina Bouraoui's search for identity through the evolution of her novels. It studies the conflict that arises from her belonging to two different cultural and sexual traditions. Bouraoui seems to want to remain in the territory of the undefined and in the space of I'entre-deux. Her narrative enables her to contradict and undermine social and literary obstacles, giving rise to a territory in which the kaleidoscope of her identity is reconstructed as she perceives it.

L’article analyse la quête identitaire de Nina Bouraoui à travers l’évolution de son parcours d’écriture. Nous examinons le conflit engendré par sa double appartenance culturelle et sexuelle ; elle semble vouloir rester dans le domaine de l’indéfinition et dans l’espace de l’entre-deux. Son récit lui permet de con-tester et de subvertir les contraintes sociales et littéraires, en créant un territoire où la mosaïque identitaire se reconstruit telle qu’elle la ressent.
