PRESENCIA DE LOS INTERESES SOVIÉTICOS EN LAS ISLAS CANARIAS. SOVHISPÁN: 1971-1991

La tesis doctoral tiene como objeto general de estudio, los “intereses soviéticos”, principalmente económicos y pesqueros, en las Islas Canarias en las dos últimas décadas de existencia de la Unión Soviética. La actividad económica, desarrollada por la URSS, a través de la llegada de la flota y el funcionamiento de la empresa mixta “Sovhispán”, resultó bastante beneficiosa para la economía de las islas. La investigación alumbra, además, el período previo de la normalización de las relaciones diplomáticas entre España y la Unión Soviética, poniendo de manifiesto el concepto de diplomacia empresarial, que iba por delante del establecimiento de las relaciones de alto nivel. Consecuentemente, la tesis revela el importante papel, desarrollado por “Sovhispán” en las relaciones bilaterales hispano-soviéticas.

Abstract: The doctoral thesis has as general object of study, the "Soviet interests", mainly economic and fishing, in the Canary Islands during the last two decades of existence of the Soviet Union. The economic activity, developed by the USSR, through the arrival of the fleet and the operation of the joint venture "Sovhispán", was quite beneficial for the economy of the islands. The investigation also illuminates the previous period of normalization of diplomatic relations between Spain and the Soviet Union, highlighting the concept of business diplomacy, which was ahead of the establishment of high-level relations. Consequently, the thesis reveals the important role, developed by "Sovhispan" in the bilateral Hispano-Soviet relations.
