Fronteras que no son frontera: musulmanes a norte y sur del estrecho de Gibraltar en el siglo XV

Abstract

Las confesiones de cautivos musulmanes, capturados navegando en embarcaciones islámicas no piráticas y que llegaron a Valencia entre 1409 y 1434, permiten descubrir los intensos contactos existentes entre norte y sur del estrecho de Gibraltar. Comercio de cabotaje y de corto radio, pesca y migraciones muestran el pulso frenético de la navegación cotidiana y revelan la inexistencia de fronteras económicas, sociales y humanas entre el Norte de África y el sultanato nazarí de Granada.

The confessions of Muslims, captured when sailing in Islamic non-pirate ships and brought to Valencia between 1409 and 1434, reveal the existence of intense contact between the northern and southern shores of the Strait of Gibraltar. Coastal and short-range trade, fishing and migration demonstrate the vibrant pulse of daily exchange, and reveal the lack of economic, social and human frontiers between the North of Africa and the Nasrid Sultanate of Granada.
