The following article is a study concerning the inhabitants and military personnel of the civil and military establishment of San Felipe Bacalar, and their role in the Spanish Crown's effort to recover control of the southeastern corner of the Yucatan peninsula during the eighteenth century. Also, we provide a description of this frontier society in eighteenth-century New Spain.
