Abstract: Spanish society is undergoing a housing access crisis, intensified by inflation. This study explores whether such crisis is spatially generalized or marked by local nuances. Focusing on Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the research examines how topophobia and community-based subjective perceptions might influence housing price trends. Using survey data from secondary students (ages 15– 17), the study analyses youth perceptions of housing and urban space—both materially and socioeconomically. These perceptions are then compared to the spatial distribution of housing prices, using official sources such as the State Housing Rent Price Reference System. Preliminary findings suggest that while imaginaries and social preferences may shape housing dynamics, their influence remains marginal compared to structural market forces and housing scarcity, particularly amid rising demand in the Canary Islands' capital.
