Teratopolítica, monstruos y portentos: Una perspectiva biohistórica, 1767-1820

Abstract

El presente artículo plantea un punto de partida para el análisis de la teratología desde una ótica biohistórica y, por tanto, biopolítica, en el momento de la transición de dos paradigmas: el de la Ilustración del siglo xviii y el del Romanticismo, durante los primeros años del siglo xix. Nuestra intención es afrontar el problema del monstruo como portento social, económico y político desde los anclajes estéticos del Renacimiento, la ruptura que supone el Barroco y las dimensiones escénicas y obscénicas que adquiere como solución en cuanto conflicto cultural, religioso y científico del hecho monstruoso.

This article attempts propose a starting point for the analysis of teratology from a biohistorical and, therefore, biopolitical perspective, at the time of the transition of two paradigms: that of the 18th century Enlightenment and that of Romanticism, during the first years of the 19th century. Our aim attempts to confront the problem of the monster as a social, economic and political portent from the aesthetic anchors of the Renaissance, the rupture represented by the Baroque and the scenic and obscene dimensions that it acquires as a solution in terms of cultural, religious and scientific conflict of the monstrous fact.
