El primer regente de la Audiencia de Canarias: Hernán Pérez de Grado

Abstract

La instauración de la figura del regente como máxima autoridad judicial en la Audiencia de Canarias es un tema que ha merecido el estudio y el interés de los historiadores del derecho, que no solo se han ocupado de destacar la importancia de dicho oficio, sino también su regulación y competencias1. El primer regente nombrado por el rey para dirimir las diferencias que habían surgido en el seno del tribunal fue el doctor Hernán Pérez de Grado, del cual conocemos lo sustancial. No obstante, la aparición de nuevos documentos, en especial su testamento, nos ha animado a revisar su figura y a biografiarla

The establishment of the figure of the Regent as the highest judicial authority in the Audience or Royal Justice Court of the Canary Islands has given rise to the study and interest of legal historians, who has not only taken care of highlighting the importance of this task, but also its regulations and jurisdictions. The first Regent appointed by the King to settle the differences that had arisen within the court was Dr. Hernán Pérez de Grado, of whom we know the basics. The discovery of new documents, especially his will, encourages us to revise his figure and to biograph it.
