The amphi-Atlantic species Brotula barbata (Bloch &Schneider, 1801) (Ophidiiformes, Brotulidae) is reported for the first time in the Canary Islands (northeastern Atlantic). This finding marks a new northern limit for its distribution in the eastern Atlantic. This study also contributes to the knowledge of the species morphological characteristics.en_US
