Assuming that the idea of Africa owes much to the understanding African nationalists had of their societies, the specific contribution of three nationalists is here discussed, although one of them, Frantz Fanon, is not of African origin, but from the Antilles. In this context, nationalism is understood as part of a larger movement, the African renaissance movement, cyclically evoked by African leaders and therefore must be understood as a long-term movement (longue durée).
