Abstract: An adequate preoperative evaluation is essential for the success of bariatric surgery. Preoperative optimization aims to educate the patient, promote healthy lifestyle habits, and study and treat the comorbidities to reduce the risk of perioperative complications. In this chapter, we will analyze the aspects of this preoperative evaluation, focusing mainly on the preoperative cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic and anesthetic evaluation of the patient candidate for bariatric surgery.
