Entre piedra y agua: estudio y propuestas para La Vega de San Lorenzo

Abstract

El trabajo que se expone en el presente resumen aborda el estudio y aprovechamiento del agua dentro de la intercuenca hidrográfica Tenoya – Guiniguada, en el entorno de la Vega agrícola de San Lorenzo, en el municipio de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Islas Canarias). Debido al progresivo abandono que han sufrido las Charcas de San Lorenzo y la importancia que estas tienen en el medio donde se enmarcan, se ha desarrollado un estudio diacrónico acreditando el estado actual y realizando desde un punto de vista geográfico un informe de sostenibilidad, de uso y gestión aplicando una serie de propuestas. Con una perspectiva holística, se han recogido datos históricos, geológicos, geomorfológicos, ecológicos, climatológicos, hidrológicos (sobre la arquitectura del agua, con cálculos de capacidad de la cuenca y de pendiente) e implementándolos en un Sistema de Información Geográfica. Con los resultados obtenidos se pretende potenciar agrícola y turísticamente la zona, fomentando el uso de Las Charcas de San Lorenzo y una ruta cultural que entremezcla la singular geología del lugar con el agua y la arquitectura vinculada a ella. Apostando por la viabilidad de un proyecto que ya realizaron nuestros antepasados en el siglo XVI.

The work presented in this abstract shows the study and the utilization of the water in the Tenoya – Guiniguada hydrographic inter-basin, located in the agricultural meadow of San Lorenzo, in the municipality of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). Due to the progressive abandonment that the ponds of San Lorenzo have undergone and the importance they have within the environment where they are situated, a diachronic study has been developed to confirm their current state. A sustainability, use and management report has been carried out as well, from a geographical point of view, applying a series of proposals. From a holistic perspective, the historical, geological, geomorphological, ecological, climatological and hydrological (about water architecture, with calculations of the capacity of the basin and of the slope) information has been collected and introduced in a Geographic Information System. According to the results obtained, it’s expected to strengthen the area agriculturally and touristically, by promoting the use of the ponds of San Lorenzo and by setting a cultural tour up that intermingles the special geology of that place with the water and the architecture linked to it. That is, supporting the viability of a project which was already carried out by our ancestors in the 16th century.
