Abstract: Despite the fact that a sustainable energy production is highly recommended from different points of view (use of indigenous renewable energy resources that are cheaper, less polluting resources among others) it is important to analyze what is the capacity of high investment projects to achieve a certain economic competitiveness. It is specially important for desalination plants piloted with renewable energy that need very high investment. From a nexus approach it is done for a better understanding of the synergies between energy from renewable energy sources, water desalination techniques, and markets.
