Abstract

Benito Pérez Galdós (Las Palmas 1843-Madrid 1920) sintió vocación temprana por el teatro, y con un drama posromántico inició su andadura literaria. Dedicado a la literatura como profesional a partir de 1970, destacó como novelista mediante un realismo muy personal en la línea del europeo de la época. En 1892 subió a las tablas del Teatro de la Comedia de Madrid con el éxito de Realidad. En adelante, se suceden en su creación novela y teatro con interrelaciones interesantes. Su éxito más ruidoso fue Electra, en 1901. No sólo fue Galdós autor de teatro, sino teórico del género en distintos medios sociales.
