Sociedad civil y construcción del imaginario artístico. La ciudad de Las Palmas y el Gabinete Literario

Abstract

La sociedad civil y el arte ocuparon un papel de primer orden en la estructura político-social-cultural del siglo XIX. En el caso de la ciudad de Las Palmas, en Gran Canaria, el Gabinete Literario es un perfecto ejemplo del impulso que la sociedad civil supuso en el avance de la urbe hacia el tan ansiado progreso, al tratarse de una de las Sociedades culturales y recreativas más antiguas del Archipiélago y por haber llegado hasta nuestros días muestras de su pasado (imagen corporativa, propuestas culturales propias y participación en eventos de carácter regional), que nos permiten confirmar el importante papel que este colectivo tuvo en la creación de un imaginario artístico con el que justificar su presencia como grupo y con el que mostrarse al exterior.
