dc.description.abstractEn este trabajo proponemos una separación subespecífica para el lagarto gigante de La Palma (Islas Canarias), y se describen las características morfológicas que la diferencian de otras poblaciones de Gallotia simonyi. La subespecie, Gallotia simonyi auaritae, puede distinguirse por el número de dientes en maxiliar y dentario a igualdad de tamaño, y por la aparición a edades más tempranas de la segunda fila de dientes en pterigoides y de la curvatura del hueso articular.en_US
dc.description.abstractWe propose a subspecific status for the subfossil giantic lacertid lizards of La Palma (Canary Islands), which have been recently regarded as conspecific with Gallotia simonyi. Accordingly, a description of this new subspecies (Gallotia simonyi auaritae) is provided. Skeletal differences with other giantic canarian lizards involve dentary and maxillary teeth patterns, pterygoid teeth patern and articular bone morphology.en_US
