dc.description.abstractIn the Canary Islands there is a quantity of wastes that have ended up in drains, (many of them illegal) and in facilities about to saturation. These in the main do not provide effective waste disposal. This constitutes one of the main causes of deterioration of the environment in the Canaries and risks to health, contamination of air, soil and water. To overcome this serious situation and to get a cleaner archipelago, the Canaries are applying the European Directives (91/156/CEE, 94/67/CE) and state legislation in this matter. The intention is to create each of the Canary islands an Environmental Complex in which centralized administration of the wastes can be carried out. In this work, we study the Environmental Complex of Zonzamas, in Lanzarote Island, a plant of classification for Urban Solid Wastes that separates the different materials for recycling or reutilization.en_US
