The high mortality recorded during larval development due in part to the absence of an adequate diet hampers the commercial cultivation of Octopus vulgaris. The understanding of the digestive physiology constitutes one of the lines of research. In this study we try to improve the knowledge about the feeding, nutrition and physiology of O. vulgaris paralarvae through the design of an inert diet and the study of the effect of different diets on the digestive enzymatic capacity of the paralarvae and their viability. In a first study, the digestive enzymatic activity of paralarvae fed with Maja Brachydactyla zoeas and gammarids was analysed, finding a higher specific activity in 10-day old specimens regardless of diet. Additionally, two culture trials were carried out where the effect of feeding the paralarvae on the one hand with zoeas of Grapsus adscensionis and on the other with Artemia enriched with the microalgae Navicula salinicola and marine phospholipids was tested. Unfortunately, in both cases the cultures had to be closed prematurely due to the appearance of contamination, not finding differences between the treatments. Finally, an inert diet was designed based on the biochemical composition of wild specimens obtained from the bibliography. With this information the raw materials were selected and the direct spherification technique with alginate was used to manufacture the micro diet. A culture was carried out comparing the effect of this diet, both fresh and lyophilized in co-feeding with Artemia against a control treatment, the data showed greater growth when feeding with both diets and a greater activity of alkaline proteases, especially when using fresh diet.en_US
