Abstract: This paper describes a Monte Carlo ray-tracing algorithm and models for the fast calculation of the impulse response on IR channels. We define models for emitter-lens optical systems, the effective signal-collection area of an IR detector with nonimaging concentrators and the reflection pattern of the indoor surfaces. These models approximate better to real behavior than the ideals. Other significant aspect of the developed tool is that it can account for any number of reflected paths, irregularly shaped rooms and furniture. We also present computer simulation results for different optical links, which allow us to establish the configuration of that conventional receiver using angle-diversity that better performances presents with respect to the channel parameters: the rms delay spread and the path loss.
