Issue Date: | 1993 | Journal: | Microprocessing and Microprogramming | Conference: | 19TH EUROMICRO SYMP ON MICROPROCESSING AND MICROPROGRAMMING ( EUROMICRO 93 ) | Abstract: | This paper presents a new model for the standard IEEE 802.5. Concurrent Ring is a LAN based on a token ring access method that uses a multiple transmissions scheme. It introduces a new concept for the transmission protocol and we propose a complete study of design, simulation and evaluation for this model. So, our aim is just to define some modifications to get some significant advantages. In the Concurrent Ring no station needs to wait for the arrival of a token or any other event to start its transmission. Because of the token presence gives a certain sequence to the network, the token ring harmony will not be broken. In any case, simulation studies show that Concurrent Ring behavior for high workloads offers a better throughput characteristic than the standard. On the other hand, we obtained throughput distribution fairness for every station when the network works under heavy load conditions. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/75052 | ISSN: | 0165-6074 | DOI: | 10.1016/0165-6074(93)90158-H | Source: | Microprocessing and Microprogramming [ISSN 0165-6074], v. 38 (1-5), p. 293-299, (Septiembre 1993) |
