dc.description.abstract191 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from hospital infections were studied according to their serotypes, phagetypes and antibiotic resistance. 87.43 % of the strains agglutinated with a single antiserum and 12.56 % resulted to be clearly poliagglutinable. Typable strains were distributed into 12 serotypes, being O:1, O:11, O:8 and O:16 the prevalent. More than 100 different types were registered by phagetyping and 12,04 % of the strains were non-typable. The frequency of the resistance to each of the fifteen antibiotics testes was as follows : piperacillin, 24.7 % ; ticarcillin, 43,3 % ; mezlocillin, 92.7 % ; ceftazidime, 8.4 % ; cefotaxime, 93.8 % ; ceftizoxime, 96 % ; cefonicid, 96.7 % ; ceftriaxone, 83.3 % ; imipenem, 1 % ; aztreonam, 43.3 % ; gentamicin, 79.8 % ; tobramycin, 15 % ; amikacin, 3.4 % ; norfloxacin, 10 % and ciprofloxacin, 8 %. These results were compared with those from previous epidemiological reports of nosocomial P. aeruginosa in Gran Canaria (Spain).en_US
