Abstract: The launch during the last two decades of several satellites with sensors designed specifically for the oceans observation supposed a revolution in Oceanography In this paper we study the active and passive sensors with oceanographic capabilities Iike the infrared and microwave radiometers for the measurement of sea surface temperature, the visible scanner that produces phytoplankton maps, the scatterometer to obtain the surface wind field, the altimeter gives us information about sea surface topography and significant wave height and finally, the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) that produces high resolution images of the sea surface.
