dc.description.abstract | In recent years many large aquariums have added a variety of jellyfish to their collections, and as a result the market for these individuals has substantially grown, leading to an increase in their price. This has led to a rising interest in the reproductive biology of such creatures, and in the convenience of studying aquariums in order to reproduce and maintain jellyfish species, so as to achieve autonomy and independence from distributors, therefore reducing facilities and maintenance costs. Phyllorhiza punctata, (and Aurelia spp.) is one of the most sought after species in the market, since it is highly ornate, easy to maintain and safe to keep. The present study has been carried out in Biodomo facilities, in Parque de las Ciencias, in Granada, which are destined to exhibit the rich biodiversity of tropical areas, while preserving the environment, carrying out research and promoting education and environmental awareness. The objective of this final degree project is to present a protocol for designing and maintaining P. punctata facilities, as for the reproduction of the species. To assist its reproduction a strobilation induction experiment has been performed, utilizing an iodine compound with three different concentrations. | en_US |
