| Other Titles: | Mandragoa Officinarum At The Origin Of The Homeric Nephentes? | Authors: | Becerra Romero, Daniel | UNESCO Clasification: | 6202 Teoría, análisis y crítica literarias | Issue Date: | 2005 | Journal: | Habis | Abstract: | Traditionally it has been believed that the main ingredient of the powerful drink nepenthes consisted of a preparation of opium extracted from the poppy. However this plant, it seems, was not found in "Egyptian" soil at such an early period. For this reason we have examined other possible candidates for instance, Mandrake. This plant seems to conform more to the available data which the classical texts and archaeology suggest to us. |
