Title: | A new approach for proving or generating combinatorial identities | Authors: | González Sánchez, Luis | UNESCO Clasification: | 120205 Análisis combinatorio | Keywords: | Pascal's triangle Pascal's formula Recursive combinatorial formula Combinatorial identity |
Issue Date: | 2010 | Journal: | International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology | Abstract: | A new method for proving, in an immediate way, many combinatorial identities is presented. The method is based on a simple recursive combinatorial formula involving n+1 arbitrary real parameters. Moreover, this formula enables one not only to prove, but also generate many different combinatorial identities (not being required to know them a priori), simply by assigning adequate values to those parameters. The identities all flow swiftly from one simple theorem and the presentation is self-contained. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10553/72395 | ISSN: | 0020-739X | DOI: | 10.1080/00207390903398382 | Source: | International Journal Of Mathematical Education In Science And Technology [ISSN 0020-739X], v. 41 (3), p. 359-372, (2010) |
